Frequently Asked Questions
Here are some of our most frequently asked questions. Can't find what you're looking for? Please get in touch, we're happy to help.
We want everyone at your party to enjoy the food safely, so we’ve listed all our canapés with the 14 legally defined allergens, as well as whether they’re vegetarian (V), vegan (Ve) or gluten free (GF).
We take great care in preparing and labelling our products, but our food is made in kitchens that handle common allergens, so if you or your guests have any allergies or dietary requirements, please let us know.
We’re always happy to talk through ingredients and help you choose suitable options, just get in touch before your event so we can make sure everything is just right.
Allergens
The 14 allergens that we’re required to mention if contained in the recipes are:
Celery, cereals containing gluten, crustaceans, eggs, fish, lupin, milk, molluscs, mustard, peanuts, sesame seeds, soybeans (soya), sulphur dioxide and sulphites, tree nuts.
More on these:
- Celery: Includes stalks, leaves, seeds, and celeriac.
- Cereals containing gluten: Specifically wheat (such as spelt and Khorasan), rye, barley, and oats.
- Crustaceans: Prawns, crabs, lobster, and scampi.
- Eggs: Includes eggs from chickens, ducks, quails, etc..
- Fish: All species of finned fish, fish oils, and caviar.
- Lupin: A flower that is also used in flour and found in some bread, pastries, and pasta.
- Milk: Includes dairy from cows, sheep, and goats.
- Molluscs: Mussels, oysters, scallops, snails, and squid.
- Mustard: Liquid mustard, powder, and seeds.
- Peanuts: A legume often found in sauces, desserts, and oils.
- Sesame seeds: Found on bread buns, in tahini, and hummus.
- Soybeans (Soya): Found in tofu, bean curd, soy sauce, and edamame beans.
- Sulphur dioxide and sulphites: Often used as preservatives in dried fruit, meat products, wine, and beer (if over 10 parts per million).
- Tree nuts: Almonds, hazelnuts, walnuts, Brazil nuts, cashews, pecans, pistachios, and macadamia nuts.
Making changes to your canapés is actually very straightforward. All the elements of your dishes come pre-prepared but ready to assemble, so if you want to leave out an element or an ingredient, that’s totally up to you.
If you’re ordering one of our bundle deals, we’re afraid it’s not possible to swap out different parts of the package for something else – but of course you’re welcome to order extras!
It’s a good question, and the answer will depend on the type of occasion and your guests.
Finger food is always popular, and each canapé is designed to be a single bite. You may want just a few nibbles to start the evening before a sit down meal. Or perhaps instead of a starter. Or it may be that your small bites keep going throughout the evening, and replace a sit down meal altogether.
As a general rule, we suggest:
- With a welcome drink: 3–4 pieces per person (just enough to tease the appetite).
- Drinks reception/before dinner: 5–6 pieces per person.
- Evening/cocktail party: 8–12 pieces per person
Whatever your style of event, we’ll give you a few bits of advice:
- Never just order one of each canapé per person. There’s always those foodie/hungry/greedy friends who hover by the kitchen, and they will definitely take more than one. We know, because that’s usually us! 😉
- If you have veggie and vegan guests, remember that most people will likely be sharing the veggie options too, so make sure you’ve ordered enough of those to go around everyone.
- As the queen of the kitchen (Nigella Lawson) says, never knowingly be under-catered. The foundation of great hosting is generosity. If you run out, it means that; a) someone has probably gone hungry, and b) there are no little chef’s treats left in the kitchen for you at the end of the night!
Preparing canapés from scratch is time consuming. That’s why you want us to do it for you, after all! So that we can be as efficient as possible with our preparation time, we set a minimum number of 12 for each type of canape on your order.
We do understand, though, that there will be times that you’re catering for a smaller event or a romantic dinner for two. For these occasions, we have created bundle deals which would be suitable for two or four guests, to give you a selection of small bites on a smaller scale.
We want to make sure that your order reaches you in perfect condition, and in plenty of time for your event. We dispatch orders on Wednesdays and Thursdays for next day delivery, so we’d suggest choosing Thursday delivery for a Friday event, and Friday delivery if you’re partying at the weekend. All ingredients will have at least two days shelf life after arriving with you, often much more.
To ensure that we have availability for your chosen date, it’s best to place your order as early as possible. At the least, we ask for all orders to be placed by midnight on Sunday for delivery the following week. This makes sure we have plenty of time to source all the freshest ingredients, do all your prep, and package everything carefully for delivery.
If your chosen date is showing as unavailable, if you have a particularly large event, or you’ve just left it to the last minute, please contact us and we’ll always see what we can do to help.
If you would prefer to collect your order from us, this can usually be arranged. We are based in Yateley (on the Hampshire/Berkshire/Surrey border).
If you would like to collect from us, please get in touch before placing your order so that we can confirm location and availability.
Cheeky! But fair play for asking 😉
As a rule, we try and keep our prices low across the board rather than offering discount codes. Having said that, we do sometimes offer new customer discounts, as well as incentives and seasonal promotions.
